Use ElliptiGO to go someplace with an elliptical

Created by an Ironman who had been severely injured, the ElliptiGO is a hybrid form of transport. The device is an elliptical machine that operates like a bicycle. The machine can go just about anywhere a bicycle would. It uses eight gears to provide a high intensity workout without impact.

The ElliptiGO design

The ElliptiGO is an “outdoor elliptical bicycle” that uses the chain drive of an elliptical machine on a regular bicycle. The machine is made with an adjustable stride length and steering column so many individuals can ride it. In fact, those between 5 foot and 6 foot 6 can ride the machine. You will find eight gears on the bicycle. Also, anybody up to 250 pounds could be held by the carbon-fiber frame.

How ElliptiGO makes you exercise

An ElliptiGO machine claims to be a better workout than bicycling or running alone. A moderate pace on the ElliptiGO is comparable to a bicycle, at about 12 to 18 miles per hour. There isn’t as much of an impact on your hips and knees with the ElliptiGO as there would be running, although it is more than a bicycle. You are standing instead of sitting on the ElliptiGO. This causes more calories to be burned. The full leverage of legs and hips is behind you while your body is always moving. This means, the ElliptiGO makes it easier to go up hills than it would be on a bicycle.

Is it worth getting the ElliptiGO?

At a price of $2,200, the ElliptiGO is not an inexpensive exercise machine. The high-end carbon fiber bicycle will cost about this anyway. Are you thinking about investment? The ElliptiGO is part cross trainer and part transportation that is self-propelled. An ElliptiGO, because it allows you to stand while moving, won’t wrinkle your clothing, which is a common problem with bicycle commuting. The ElliptiGO may be a transportation system worth it since it is one-tenth the price of a car.
