Whitman maid admits too years of employment as unlawful immigrant

Before she was fired, Meg Whitman’s maid claimed she worked for nine years illegally with the full knowledge of her boss. The story is causing a commotion. It has the Whitman campaign in major spin control as the Republican candidate for California governor gears up for the election in November. Cracking down on businesses that employ undocumented workers is a major plank in Whitman’s advertising campaign platform. Illegal maid for Meg Whitman, for nine years

Nicky Diaz Santillan, as Meg Whitman’s Mexican maid, went with her celebrity attorney Gloria Allred to a press conference Wednesday to spread the news. Whitman fired this house maid, reports the new York Daily News. The purpose of firing the house maid was to make sure that during her campaign she did not have anything around to look bad. {Allred said Whitman knew Diaz Santillan was an illegal immigrant all along, yet turned a blind eye since the housekeeper provided cheap labor|The housekeeper provided cheap labor to Whitman which is why, states Allred, she continued to employ Diaz Santillan although she knew the maid was an illegal immigrant|Whitman was not ignorant to the fact that Diaz Santillan was an unlawful immigrant, reports Allred. She wanted the cheap labor the house maid provided and so pretended to know n! othing. Allred went on to say her client was “disrespected, humiliated and emotionally and financially abused.” Diaz wants unpaid wages and mileage reimbursement so she is suing Whitman.

It might be ‘a political stunt’

Allred said Whitman received a letter from the Social Security Administration in 2003 saying the Social Security number provided by Diaz Santillan did not match the name on file. As outlined by the Houston Chronicle, Whitman had something to say about this. She stated there wasn’t ever a letter like this sent to her. In June 2009, five months after Whitman started to start running for governor, Diaz Santillan came to Whitman claiming she had used her sister’s documents to get hired, claims the Whitman advertising campaign . Whitman’s campaign said Allred’s news conference was a political stunt timed to influence the November election. Following a campaign event in San Jose, Calif., Whitman said “I feel terrible for Nicky. … She’s being manipulated.”.

Illegal immigration hypocrisy?

It seems interesting to think about some of the platforms Whitman is running on for governor of California. She wants to implement fines to anybody hiring unlawful immigrants in the state. According to the Washington Independent, those paying attention think Whitman won’t be able to reach out to the Latino population of CA. This is because of the suit Whitman is being charged with from Allred. Many will call her a hypocrite too.
