PowerPoint presentation about sexuality leaves Duke cold

Karen Owen, Duke alumna, has created a huge PR problem for the school. How? A Powerpoint “thesis” intended just for friends. Karen Owen’s thesis (the fake one, anyway) laid out, in detail, her sexual conquests. Karen Owen knew exactly what she was doing when she created the powerpoint. It is really possible, though, that she never intended it to be shared as widely as it has been. Article source – Duke student PowerPoint does viral damage by Personal Money Store.

The PowerPoint Karen Owen made

Karen Owen made a Powerpoint of sexual conquests for her project which had “Just for fun” as its title. Each and every pairing encounter the Duke student had been in had been outlined in the PowerPoint. First, Karen Owen shared the Powerpoint with just her friends. Quickly, though, the Powerpoint presentation got sent around Duke, then around the world. The PowerPoint became very popular because it was from a college student and traveled very fast. More than two million downloads of the Powerpoint have happened so far. That’s a growth rate that can’t even be reached by payday loans no faxing stores.

PowerPoint made by Duke student reopens wounds

It was just a couple of short years ago that the private life of Duke became international news. After the lacrosse team had been charged with (and later cleared of) sex crimes, the private life of the college had been spread across the world. The Karen Owen PowerPoint has made some reconsider Duke. The college students seem to promiscuous. Some say that Duke is unusual only in how much attention the students get. Others argue that there is something unusual about the culture at that college.

Was not too much of a reaction to the Karen Owen PowerPoint

While some are questioning the intelligence of Karen Owen’s choice to make the Powerpoint, there are other concerns. Jezebel, which first posted the Duke student Powerpoint, did not redact any names. Karen Owen herself questioned this move. It didn’t have much journalistic responsibility. Names of those involved were redacted by numerous of the news outlets. What do you think about this?
