BMW logo flash the cutting edge of subliminal advertising

BMW emblem flash-projected onto eyelids of moviegoers

The BMW emblem made quite an impression in a marketing demonstration at a German film theater recently. In a test of a BMW commercial, people watching had a flash projection of a Bavarian Motor Works logo showed up in their minds with their eyes closed. Viewers members interviewed after the show were excited, but the stunt raises questions about whether the technique is safe, or even legal. In either case you know the business took out a huge pay day loans to get a thing like this done.

Logo for BMW projected

The BMW logo has gone where no logo has gone before. Viewers ended up having the BMW logo stamped into their brains with a type of flash projection technology that digital cameras use. The gimmick is situated on how an image of the sun is imprinted on the retina after looking at it for an instant. For a brief moment seems like to be projected on the back of the eyelids after they’re closed. A studio flash unit called Profoto Pro-7B was used behind the screen at a German movie theater. A stencil of the BMW logo was placed in front of the flash.

What it was like seeing the BMW commercial

The BMW logo was projected onto the retinas of people watching an ad for BMW motorcycles featuring Superbike world champion Ruben Xaus. The afterimage of the BMW brand will "literally get inside people's heads" as outlined by producers. They even talked about the technique. They said a "harmless photo flash" was being used. In the ad Xaus says "I am living my dream. ‘What dream?’ you ask. Just close your eyes and look deep inside yourself. Possibly it is your dream too. It’s in you.” Then the BMW logo is projected. This is for the audience. The flash is all the audience notices. Then Xaus explains, “Close your eyes and also you will see it.”

The response to the BMW logo flash from people

There were a lot of audience members very impressed with it. They didn't care that they were being tested out. Many wonder if burning the BMW logo into retinas at films is even safe. The Profoto Pro07B flash only lasts from 1/3,000 to 1/400 of a second, but it cranks out intensely bright light. Everyone knows looking at the sun isn’t really a good idea and can be hazardous to the eyesight. Brief flashes of light that are bright enough are bad too. Epileptic seizures are caused by them.
