Spirit Airlines will now charge for carry-on bags

Since 2008, many major airlines have started charging fees for checked baggage – now Spirit Airlines is taking those checked bag fees one step further Spirit Airlines can be taking the two year old checked baggage fee one step further. In a move that will be closely viewed, Spirit Airlines will start charging for carry-on luggage. The airline has not announced if they will be offering no credit check cheap payday loans to customers who can’t pay the fees.

Spirit Airlines focuses on no-frills service

The airline service offered by Spirit Airlines is decidedly no-frills. With a $ 40 yearly membership, some customers can get Spirit airline fares for as little as $ 9 each way. Each way, an average Spirit Airlines ticket costs $ 50 to $ 150. Spirit Airlines charges $ 25 for one checked bag, and $ 45 for a second checked bag. To prevent customers needingno faxing payday loans to pay for their travel, Spirit says it will drop average fees by $ 40.

Spirit Airlines will charge carry-on fees

Many airline customers are carrying on more luggage due to the checked baggage fees. Spirit Airlines plans on charging for those carry-on bags on August 1. Spirit Airline “members” could be charged $ 20. Non-members that pre-register bags will be charged $ 30. Non-registered bags will expense $ 45 at the gate. Spirit Airlines is also considering replacing front counter service with self-service kiosks. Spirit Airlines will not charge for “personal items” that fit within the space under the seat in front of passengers.

Will major airlines follow the example of Spirit Airlines?

No major air carrier has yet said they will even use these fees. JetBlue and Southwest airlines have not yet started charging for checked baggage. Within the third quarter of last year, checked baggage fees brought in $ 700 million to airlines. In that same time, an average ticket price dropped by 14%.
