It is Earth Day 2010 on April 22. Earth Day 2010, and indeed each Earth Day, is a good time to keep in mind that all of us should be good custodians to the environment. After all, our children take over exactly what we leave behind, and I certainly don’t want my legacy to be litter. There are also some good Earth Day Activities for Kids, if you would like to contain the little ones. Plenty of things you can do are incredibly cost-effective, so doing something for Earth Day won’t make need debt relief.
Earth Day began April 22, 1970
The first Earth Day was a teach in. Senator Gaylord Nelson (D-WI) started speaking at rallies for a lot more attention to be called to environmental issues in the fall of 1969. With the help of media coverage and organizers, a grassroots effort for environmental advocacy took off. Colleges and universities held teach ins, and rallies and demonstrations all took place on April 22, 1970. Over 20 million individuals participated, and Earth Day and Earth Week were born. The idea caught on, and April 22 is observed as Earth Day worldwide.
v?|Just what can I do}?}
There are plenty of activities that will properly commemorate Earth Day 2010. You can use grass clippings and leaves to start a compost pile. You can plant a tree – they spruce (pun intended) up a yard and add property value. (The Arbor Day Foundation has more info on that.) Try some recycling. Depending on the policies with your area, you may be able to get some cash now for certain materials, such as aluminum.One couple is paying for their wedding with recycled cans and made national headlines with their project Wedding Cans.
The EPA expands on Earth Day
The Environmental Protection Agency site has some things for Earth Day. They suggest people Pick 5 for the Environment, and list activities one can do to conserve water, air, power and waste, also as advocacy activities. The EPA site has some good tips for that.
