Berry in good condition after nearly passing out in concert

Chuck Berry, the legendary guitarist and songwriter, is strong after a health related event during one of his concerts. Berry had to be assisted offstage, after nearly passing out at a piano bench. The 84-year-old is in strong condition and has returned to his home to rest.

Chuck Berry at Chicago concert and almost passes out

At a recent concert performance at the Congress Theater in Chicago on New Years, Berry fell ill during a concert before he got to “Auld Lang Syne”, as outlined by ABC. During the performance, Berry sat down at the electric piano onstage and began to slump over. Then Berry waved because he needed help. Then he went offstage immediately. He returned a half an hour later to reassure fans that he was fine, and even managed an abbreviated “duck walk,” the dance step he made famous. Angus Young of AC/DC is probably the most famous to have copied the "duck walk" although many individuals did this. Berry went home to St. Louis the next day as he had been feeling ill that whole evening.

Rescheduled concert for Berry enthusiasts

The live performance is already rescheduled for Jan. 19 and is sold out, according to Yahoo News. Berry is 84 years old however very healthy. He was just fatigued at the moment. Berry had performed two concerts in New York City on New Year’s Eve and flew to Chicago for a show the following night.

Continuing in strength

Not many musicians have the longevity and influence of Berry. Berry has been the influence for artists like the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, Bruce Springsteen, Ted Nugent, AC/DC and legions while he has recorded since the 1950s. The song “Johnny B. Goode” contains perhaps the best known rock ‘n’ roll guitar riff ever recorded, and other hits like “Roll Over Beethoven” and “Maybellene,” among others, are all part of the bedrock of rock and roll. Berry is as close as one can get to being able to personify the genre.
